Mr Tosin Oke, a suspected kidnapper popularly known as an old soldier, has stated that he spent his share of kidnapping ransom on his children’s education and other household expenses. A six-man armed gang abducted an oil magnate at his dredging site on Ado Road in Ajah area of Lagos State, some months ago. They took him away in a speedboat to an undisclosed location via the waterways. It was learnt that the heavily armed kidnappers fired shots into the air to deter anyone from approaching them. According to the report, the victim’s family managed to raise N42 million, which they converted into $30,000 as demanded by the kidnappers, along with an additional N100,000 in cash. Adanma Luke, Nollywood actress and producer, Adanma Luke, has appealed for forgiveness from Nigerians over  the fatal boat accident which claimed the life of John Odonwodo, aka Junior Pope, and four others.   Two Nasa astronauts who have been stuck in space for over two months will return to Earth in February 2025 with SpaceX. Nasa said the Boeing Starliner spacecraft the astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore had travelled to International Space Station (ISS) on would return to Earth "un-crewed". The pair took off on what was planned to be an eight-day mission on 5 June but will now spend around eight months in orbit. The Starliner experienced problems on its way to the ISS, including leaks of helium, which pushes fuel into the propulsion system. Several thrusters also did not work properly. Boeing and SpaceX were both awarded billion-dollar contracts by Nasa to provide commercial space flights for its astronauts. Boeing’s was worth $4.2bn (£3.18bn) while SpaceX, which was founded by billionaire Elon Musk, got $2.6bn. SpaceX has so far sent nine crewed flights to space for Nasa, as well as some commercial missions, but this was Boeing’s first attempt at a crewed mission. ...

Finally facts emerged on Saturday about how Nigerian Police with the aid of other security agents rescued the 20 abducted medical students and seven others in Benue State. The 20 students, who are from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos, were travelling to Enugu for the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students’ annual convention when they were kidnapped by bandits.   The President Bola Tinubu-led Nigerian government has reportedly excluded tertiary institutions in the South-East from the initial list of beneficiaries in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disbursement.                          According to NELFUND's circular, over N2.9billion has been allocated and distributed as loans for tuition fees to more than 27,000 students across 19 higher education institutions in Nigeria.  But none of these institutions are located in the South-East, while at least one institution from each of the other five geopolitical zones is included, People's Gazette reports.
