ISREAL HAS DISCOVERED WHERE THE HOSTAGES ARE KEPT BY HAMAS
Israel has admitted that it has intelligence on the location of the hostages that Hamas is holding captive in the Gaza Strip, but has refused to disclose any specifics.
According to AFP, Jonathan Conricus, the spokesman of the Israeli army, confirmed to reporters that they have data on the whereabouts of the remaining hostages, but said he could not share it due to the sensitivity of the issue.
"The short answer would be yes, we have [data]," Conricus said when asked by reporters if the IDF had any information on the purported whereabouts of the remaining hostages.
"But as you said, as you correctly suggested, I'm not free to share those details because of the sensitivity of the issue, and of course that would jeopardize our efforts in the future. But I can say that this is a key priority," he added.
Hamas abducted hundreds of people from southern Israel on 7 October, in a surprise attack that killed dozens of civilians and soldiers. Since then, Israel has been trying to locate and rescue the hostages, who include children, elderly people, peace activists, and caregivers.
Some of the hostages have been released or found dead, but according to Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant, 137 hostages are still being held on the coastal strip, including 15 women and two children.
The hostages are believed to be hidden in “safe places and tunnels” within Gaza, according to Hamas.
The Israeli military has launched several ground operations and airstrikes in Gaza, targeting Hamas militants and infrastructure, but has also faced international criticism for the civilian casualties and humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict.
The UN has called for an immediate ceasefire and the release of all hostages, as well as the resumption of peace talks between Israel and Hamas
